CABOT PLACE

Waltham, MA

Used as a manufacturing facility for thirty-five years, this building's high visibility made it a prime target for redevelopment as office space. The existing precast concrete structural frame and new roof have been maintained, and all other building systems and the exterior skin have been replaced with state-of-art technologies.

The exposure on Route 128 and Second Avenue called for a two entry scheme, and each has a two-story atrium articulated on the exterior with a butt-glazed curtain wall. The exterior of the building is characterized by exposed aggregate precast concrete panels articulated with horizontal bands. The new concrete exterior is self supporting, which has simplified the erection process. Ten-foot ceilings and seven-foot high windows of the tenant space sets the building apart from others on Route 128, and has increased its appeal.
